time travel possible
according to the December 10, 1955 issue of the NAVY TIMES, written by michael macdougall, strange disappearances may not be entirely random events. macdougall writes: "we were gathered in the lobby of the nordale hotel in Fairbanks, Alaska waiting for the airport limousine. from the doorway i could see the bank on the corner. instead of the customary clock, a huge temperature indicator was suspended over the door. the sign read 45 degrees below zero. "that means it's sixty below zero in the back country," said one of the travelers. "i sure pity those poor devils." "he was referring to an unsolved mystery we had just been discussing. three hunters and flown to a spot close by the arctic circle. a week later, Eskimos had found the plane, well secured and fully stocked with equipment and provisions, but the men had vanished. the wife of one of the missing men was seated in a corner, twisting and untwisting her hands. she could remember nothing about what had happened to her,or the fate of her husband and his companions. "she should go back to the states', said an outbound passenger. " they'll never find her husband." "what makes you so sure?" i asked. "his name is Franklin Briggs. he's a navy captain. his father, major Briggs, was reported missing in action during world war I. his grandfather, another captain Briggs, was listed as missing in Cuba in 1898. he never turned up either. and that's not all. his great-grandfather was the famous captain Benjamin Briggs." "captain Briggs," i repeated. "why was he famous?" " he was the skipper of the Mary Celeste, the ship that lost her crew on the voyage from new york to Genoa in 1872, the most baffiling mystery of the sea deserted by all aboard? Lloyd's of London, who carried the insurance, sent investigators into every port in the world. not a trace has ever been found of the crew or officers. there have been dozens of fantastic theories, but no hard facts. the mystery of the Mary Celeste is still a mystery." "he paused and then continued, "that's why i say Mrs. Briggs should return to the states. they'll never find her husband just as they never found any of the other Briggs." and true to his word, captain Franklin Briggs was never found."
